How To Prepare A Motorcycle For Transport

Most people think that motorcycle transport and auto transport are essentially the same thing but in reality there are several differences between the two. For instance a car is prone to much lesser damage because it is covered and all the electrical systems and accessories are completely whether-proof. Motorcycles, on the other hand, are prone to a lot of damage. Similarly a car stays stable because of four wheels but a motorcycle can fall down during transit. That's why you should only hire someone who has some experience in handling motorcycles and has all the required safety equipment like straps and ropes. Also, if you want your motorcycle to reach its destination safe and sound then you must take a few steps before shipping it.

- Of course choosing an experienced company is the first step. As I have mentioned before, motorcycle transport is not the same as auto transport and you should choose a company that holds experience in this particular field. Even a very old and trusted company might have never transported a motorcycle before. Taking advice from a motorcycle enthusiast is the best way to locate a worthwhile shipper.

- Once you have chosen a company, you should wash your bike and examine the painted surface very carefully. Make note of all the imperfections in written form. Taking pictures is also a good strategy. All this is necessary because it can help you in detecting any damages imparted by the shipping company during transportation.

- Some motorcycle transporters ask all their clients to empty the tank and disconnect the battery. See if your company has any such requirements.

- Almost all shipping companies have insurance policies but keep in mind that your company won't take responsibility for any damages to mirrors, electrical system or accessories. Therefore you should remove all these things.

- It is also a good idea to get your motorcycle checked by a good mechanic. Also, the tires should be inflated properly so that loading and unloading can be done easily.

There are many good auto transport companies in the market but not all of them are good at moving motorcycles. You should be well aware of the fact that the danger involved in motorcycle shipping is much higher than other vehicles. However, you can reduce the risk considerably by following the advice given in this article. A little carelessness can cause difficulties for you and your bike.
