It is cleaned using the backwashing process wherein the water is allowed to enter the filter from the bottom and exits at the top. The cartridge filter is the second type of pool filter. This type of filter is made up of filtering components in a cylindrical shape. Water is allowed to pass through the filters and all the impurities and dirt are caught and retained in the filtering system. This type of filter can be cleaned easily; you can soak them in a detergent solution for some time an then you can put it back to the pool.
The third type of filter is the Diatomaceous Earth filters or what is known as the DE filters. This type can be considered the most efficient type of filter, but at the same time, the most expensive. It can catch impurities as small as 5 microns. The material that is used as the filtering component is the Diatomaceous Earth, which is actually a fossilized exoskeleton of very small diatoms. Like the sand strain, DE filters are cleaned using the backwashing process.
