- Use an empty paper towel roll to make Rapunzel's tower. Cut small notches from the top of the roll, which makes it look like the top of the tower. A coat of dark gray or off-white paint makes the paper towel roll look like stone. For a more realistic look, draw small rectangles around the cardboard roll and use a variety of stone colors. Once the paint dries, sketch an open window on one side and draw the princess inside. Paint or color the princess and glue yarn to her head as the hair.
- Use bright yellow yarn and make a Rapunzel-style wig for dress-up play or Halloween. A rubber skullcap or plastic shower cap serves as the base of the wig and keeps it from falling off. Poke a series of holes around the cap and thread the yarn through. Tie a knot in the end of each piece and add enough yarn that it completely covers the cap. Make the wig as long as you want.
- Disney Family Fun suggests making an organizer from yarn and an embroidery hoop. Cut 42 pieces of bright yellow yarn, making each piece approximately 36 inches long. Fold the yarn in half and place over the bottom of the hoop. Tie a smaller piece of yarn around the middle and cut off the excess, which creates the part in the “hair” and keeps the yarn from falling off the hoop. Tie a ribbon around the bottom of the hoop, making sure the yarn completely covers the hoop. Divide the yarn into three equal sections, braid the sections and tie off with more ribbon. The yarn hair holds nearly any type of hair accessory.
- A brown paper lunch bag stuffed with newspaper can become princess Rapunzel. Let girls decorate each bag with crayons, markers or paint, making their own version of the princess. Cut yarn of different colors into long pieces and glue those pieces to the top of the bag, making Rapunzel’s hair.
