- 1). Purchase the patch kit from your local pool, hot tub dealer or hardware store. Dealers will have vinyl material to match to the hot tub cover. Normally, hot tub covers are a brownish color. If the dealer doesn't have the material, you can look at a craft store or an upholstery company.
- 2). Wipe the area that will need a patch with a wet rag. Wipe the area dry with a dry rag.
- 3). Cut the patch 1 inch larger than the size of the rip or tear. For instance, if the tear is 1 inch long slice, make the patch 2 inches long by 1 inch wide.
- 4). Turn the patch over to expose the bottom of the material. Apply a thin coat of glue to the entire patch. Place the patch on the tear so that the patch extends over the end of the tear by 1/2 inch at each end and the patch is 1/2 inch on each side of the tear.
- 5). Press down and the patch and hold your hand in place for about 4 minutes. Allow the patch to set and dry for 24 hours before moving or touching the cover.
