- 1). KNOW THE PERSON YOU ARE PRAYING FOR:
Get to know the person for whom you are praying. This will accomplish two very important things. First, it will help you know how to pray for the person. Secondly, it should make the person you are praying for more comfortable with you. - 2). DON'T ASSUME - ASK THEM:
One of the things I have found so helpful in praying with others, is to simply ask the person what they would like to say to God. What would they like me to convey about them or their situation as I pray. The reality is that they can pray for themselves, but they may or may not feel comfortable doing so. I find that asking them what they want to say to God makes the whole situation that much more personable and potentially meaningful. - 3). TOUCH THE PERSON:
If appropriate, touch the person while you pray for them. I don't believe this creates any kind of special connection or power exchange. However, I do believe this creates a more personal and intimate setting for prayer. A caring hand on a shoulder can go along way to comforting the person you are praying for. Another appropriate touch is to hold hands. - 4). PRAY FROM YOUR HEART:
Pray passionately from your own heart. Remember, you are talking to God and not to the person you are ministering to through prayer.
