Standard Cabinet Width

    One-Door Cabinet

    • Single-door cabinets are located both under the countertop and on the kitchen walls. A single-door cabinet mounted to the wall measures anywhere from 9 inches to 21 inches in width. Wider cabinets may measure the standard 30 inches in height, but can also measure 24 or 40 inches high depending on the basic layout of the cabinets. Single-door base cabinets may have a width of 9 inches, but can be as wide as 21 inches. These cabinets often have a width that increase in 3-inch increments.

    Double-Door Cabinets

    • Double-door cabinets are found on both the wall and floor cabinet structures. Wall-mounted cabinet units with two doors are anywhere from 24 to 36 inches in width. These units may measure 27, 30 or 33 inches in width, as the standard measurements for these cabinets increases in 3-inch increments. Base cabinets follow the same width measurements as those that are wall-mounted.

    Sink Cabinet Units

    • Cabinets located underneath sinks are slightly wider than other base or wall cabinets, as there must be enough room for drainage tubes and sink pipes. These cabinets measure anywhere from 30 inches to 36 inches in width, depending on the size of the sink installed on the countertop. A double-sink counter space requires 36-inch wide cabinets, while a single sink may only require a 30-inch wide cabinet.

    Standard Measurements

    • Despite altering width measurements for standard kitchen cabinets, the height and depth are standard to create a cohesive cabinet design. Cabinets located underneath the countertop are 24 inches deep and 34 1/2 inches high, which includes the cabinet toe-kick but not the thickness of the countertop. Wall-mounted cabinets are 30 inches high, but only 12 inches deep. Smaller wall-mounted cabinets above appliances are the same depth, but 15 inches tall.
