- 1). Lift the engine cowling to expose the engine.
- 2). Disconnect the sparkplug wire from the sparkplug by pulling on the black rubber boot covering the tip of the sparkplug.
- 3). Loosen the screw that holds the air filter onto the top of the carburetor, and remove the air filter.
- 4). Inspect the linkage and spring between the throttle and the governor arm on the side of the engine. If either is damaged, remove and set aside.
- 5). Insert the angled end of a new Briggs & Stratton governor linkage into the hole in the top of the throttle control on the carburetor. Insert the opposite end of the linkage into the hole at the tip of the governor.
- 6). Insert the short end of a new governor spring into the second hole on the governor, then attach the longer lead from the spring into the hole on the throttle control.
- 7). Reattach the air filter and sparkplug wire. Close the engine cowling.
