Return to Iron Bridge

In August, 2007, Mike and three of his friends had an experience with a strange, Bigfoot-like creature near Iron Bridge, Ontario, a story he related in “Encounter at Iron Bridge”. Mike vowed to return to the area to see if he could spot this creature again. He did return... and says he once again saw it – although not in the way he planned. Unfortunately and frighteningly, he was alone this time with no one to back him up. This is Mike’s continuing story….

THE HEAT OF summer is beginning to set in and it's that time of the year to get everything you need to get done to your cabins in the wilderness. My father and I went up to our cabin, northeast of Iron Bridge in Ontario, Canada, during July 11-13, 2008. We needed to finish our garage and I decided to take ownership of repairing the main road, known as the "Brady Trail", so I could get my vehicle to the bottom of the mountain next month.

We arrived Saturday morning, the 12th, at around 2 in the morning. We fell asleep inside the truck and awoke with the sun around 5:30. After wandering around the truck and lighting a cigarette, I walked over to the gas station to get a couple of cups of coffee to wake myself up. I underestimate calling this stuff coffee. I usually drink strong coffee, but this made me want to wash my mouth out with water after every sip.

My father and I then headed over to the lumber yard less than 300 meters up the road. He knew the owner there, so he began to load up his truck with the wood and roofing he needed to finish our garage and touch-up the shed.

He also loaded about 300 pounds of sand and 400 pounds of rock so I could rebuild the bad parts of the road. At around 7 in the morning, the owner of the shop showed up, said hello to us, and walked over to the gas station to grab himself a cup of mud. When he got back, we paid for our supplies and began to head down the Brady Trail.

IT WASN’T A BEAR

I had already told my father (amongst other people) about my encounter with an ape-like creature with lightning-fast speed and an unspeakable howl. He believed it to be nothing more than a bear. Although he has had his fair share of paranormal experiences, he still believed that all we had seen was a small bear and it had startled us. Yet he still couldn't explain how the bear didn't want to get out of our vehicle's way, especially after firing a shotgun shell at it.

After arriving at the foot of the mountain, we took the long, bumpy road to the top of the hill. I got out of the truck and looked around. Not much had changed. Logging crews had begun to cut down trees on the other side of the ridge on the far side of the river. I couldn't see them, but I could clearly hear their machinery. The wilderness was alive that morning. After helping my father unload the wood and roofing materials that he needed, I tucked a cooler full of water, a spare pack of smokes, and a sandwich under the passenger seat of my Rhino ATV. We then loaded about 100 pounds of sand, 200 pounds of stone, a chainsaw, a shovel, and a tape measure, and I went off on my repair adventure.

Before leaving work on Friday, I had also grabbed a couple of pop-up pylons to put on the road in either direction in hopes of making any drivers slow down and realize something was going on ahead of them. I got to the first spot that needed repair. It was a huge, gaping hole that dropped down about two feet at its lowest point. I measured out the length, cut a dead tree in approximately the same length, dropped it in the hole, and dumped about 100 pounds of stone and 50 pounds of sand on top. I smoothed it over with the shovel and drove over it a few times to make sure it was solid enough to support a vehicle like mine.

At that point it began to rain, and the lowlands began to fog quite heavily. I got inside the Rhino, happy that there wasn't a blowing wind and that it had a roof. I lit myself a cigarette. As I was reaching over to grab a bottle of water, I could hear engines revving at high throttle ahead of me. I cracked the top to my bottle of water, hoping that the pylons would warn whoever it was to slow down. I took a big slug of water.
