- 1). Open the UMD (game disc) drive to ensure it's empty. Close the UMD drive.
- 2). Turn off the PSP and turn it so the back faces you.
- 3). Remove the battery from the PSP.
- 4). Extract the screws at the middle-top and the bottom-left areas of the battery compartment.
- 5). Extract the five screws from the PSP casing. There are two in the middle part of the top, one in the middle part of the bottom, one at the top-right corner of the backing, and the last at the bottom-right edge of the backing near the memory stick compartment. If you have the PSP Phat (the original model), there are no screws at the top.
- 6). Separate the face plate from the backing and turn the face plate over so you can see the inside of it.
- 7). Remove the control buttons and the directional pad from the inside of the face plate and install them onto the replacement face plate, unless these components are already installed on the new one.
- 8). Perform the procedure in reverse to install the replacement face plate.
