- Cut a piece of ribbon so it will hang over the edge of the pages on both the top and the bottom of the book. Clamp a ribbon end finding onto each end of the ribbon, making sure the ribbon end finding is as wide or wider than the ribbon. Adorn the ends with beads or charms to personalize and add interest.
- Cut a ribbon to any length desired. Tie a knot on one end of the ribbon and thread five or six beads onto the ribbon. Tie another knot at the base of the beads to keep them from sliding off. Cut both ends of the ribbon in a V-shape or diagonally for a finished look.
- Use a piece of felt for the portion of the bookmark that rests inside the book. Attach a ribbon to the center of the felt piece, extending it from the bottom of the felt to about 2 or 3 inches beyond the end of the felt. Add beads, sequins or glitter to the ribbon, which will extend out of the book's pages. Use holiday colors and symbols for specific holidays or pick another theme, like sports, the alphabet or animals.
- Use a wide piece of ribbon as the base, then attach a thinner coordinating ribbon to the center of the bottom ribbon, extending up to the top. Glue the ribbons together or use adhesive ribbon for the top ribbon. Reinforce the top of the ribbon with a square piece of card stock cut to the width of the ribbon. Glue a silk or plastic flower, a large bead or craft jewel on top of the card stock.
