- 1). Go to the pool's electrical junction box -- typically this will be in a shed at one end of the pool. Flip the main electric power lever that is to one side of the electrical junction box to "Off." Lift the lid of the pump assembly and place it aside -- typically the pump assembly will be on one side of the pool, although in some cases it could also be in the shed that houses the electrical junction box.
- 2). Turn the knob on the valve inside the compartment now revealed fully clockwise to stop the flow of water -- use pliers to loosen the knob if it is too tight to turn.
- 3). Enter the pool and go to the grille that covers the filter -- typically this will be at the shallow end of the pool, although it could be on one of the sides or even at the deep end.
- 4). Remove the screws surrounding the grille with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the grille off. Place the grille and screws on the pool's deck. Pull the filter out of the compartment that you can now access. Put the filter on the pool's deck.
- 5). Pull the rubber gasket out of the compartment. Dispose of the gasket in the trash.
- 6). Insert a replacement rubber gasket into the compartment so it occupies the same position as the other one did. Place the filter back into the compartment, so it occupies the same position as it did before. Place the grille back on and reattach the screws.
- 7). Turn the valve counterclockwise to restore the flow of water. Close the lid on the pump assembly. Turn the lever by the pool's electrical junction box back to "On." Restore the electric power at the fuse box.
