- Celtics believed the shamrock had magical powers and was used to ward off evil. They revered it because it has three leaves and in Celtic mythology the number three was considered sacred.
- The thistle is the national symbol of Scotland. According to Ancient Celtic lore, a field of Scottish thistle was responsible for defeating invading Vikings by prohibiting them from crossing a meadow filled with the sharp thistle and saving a whole Scottish army.
- Celts associated heather with several things, including purity and cleansing, and some brides carried bouquets of heather. Other Celtic meanings for heather included romance and attraction, as well as luck and protection.
