Pop singer Lily Allen's recent account of the pain of having her wisdom teeth removed is a reminder of how important it is to get good dental care.
London where she currently lives, long ago succumbed to the star's charms as songs such as 'Smile', 'Alright, Still', 'The Fear' and 'LDN' shot up the charts.
But the 25-year-old found that her singing voice was out of action the day that she visited her dentist to have four wisdom teeth extracted.
She detailed the painful aftermath of her operation on Twitter.
Writing at 3am on the morning of Thursday, 20th January, she revealed: "I have had a nosebleed for 16 hours, I slept upright last night. Chapped lips, mouthful of blood. Not a great start to the weekend."
Responding to an enquiry from a concerned fan, Ms Allen tweeted that she thought the problems arose "cause of the oxygen tubes they stuck up my nose during the operation".
"Hamster cheeks" seemed to be another after-effect of the procedure, though she seemed pleased that she "got 10mg of morphine" while in the dentist's chair.
London dentist Ethicare (which didn't carry out Lily's operation) stress on their website that there is no evidence which suggests that the presence of wisdom teeth cause the front teeth to crowd up.
Indeed, there is no need to remove wisdom teeth just because they have appeared in a patient's mouth.
Reasons for these teeth's removal
But cases where the wisdom tooth's presence is causing recurring pain and infection can give grounds for operating.
And if a new tooth is "compromising" adjacent teeth there is also good reason to consider a removal.
Ethicare reassures its patients that the removal of wisdom teeth can often be very straightforward, frequently taking up less time than that needed for placing a filling.
This is especially true in the case of upper teeth though lower ones can be more problematic as these can be harder to access.
So remember: if you have wisdom teeth coming through you might need to seek expert dental care. London celebrities take note?
