- 1). Shut off the electricity that is being routed to your pool to help reduce the chances of being electrocuted. To do this, find your circuit breaker, and turn off the power. Use your circuit tester if you are unsure if the power is off.
- 2). Find the screw at the top of the light casing, and remove it. This screw is also known as the pilot screw. Pry the light out of its fixture, making sure to not break it. Note that your light should have enough cord so that it can run from the pool wall all the way up to the pool deck.
- 3). Take the lens out by removing the screws or clamps. Once you have done this, take the light bulb out using the dry towel. Be extremely careful with this step so that the bulb does not break.
- 4). Screw the new bulb in securely, and then have a friend very briefly reconnect power to the pool to test the new bulb. These bulbs were made to be run under water, so test it quickly. Once you have confirmed it works, attach the lens gasket, and then reassemble the light. Put the light in the water, and watch for significant air bubbles. The whole fixture should be air tight.
- 5). Put everything back just how you found it. Place the extra slack from the pool light the way you found it. Put the light back where you found it, and secure it the same way you did on the old bulb.
- 6). Test the electricity again just to be sure it works. Test the bulb at night to make sure that the lights are the exact color and wattage that you want them to run on. The only thing worse than a burnt bulb in a pool are 5 bright bulbs and 1 dim one.
