- 1). Measure the width and depth of your plaque. Write these measurements down somewhere so you don't forget them.
- 2). Find and mark the center of your board using your tape measure. Using the center point of your board as the starting point, measure out and mark a rectangle that your plaque will fit into. If you want your plaque to lean back a little bit, make your rectangle just slightly larger according to the depth of the plaque. Make sure to make your rectangle a little wider than your plaque so that it fits easily into it.
- 3). Clamp your board to a flat surface using your C-clamps and don your protective equipment.
- 4). Set your router depth. Make sure that your router depth is not set too deep. You do not want to go all the way through the board. You want your depth deep enough to hold the plaque but also so that none of the plaque is obstructed from viewing accept the bottom edge.
- 5). Router out the interior of the rectangle you measured out and marked on your board. Using a square nose spiral upcut bit will help remove the wood particles from your cut while routing.
- 6). Sand your board until smooth with sandpaper. Stain and/or varnish your board if you choose. Your plaque base is now complete.
