Putting Mommy First

You got up early this morning preparing for breakfast, packing lunches, laying out clothes, cleaning the house, caring for kids, it has been a long day and you haven't stopped yet.
Rinse and repeat tomorrow! Is this you? You love your family but you just don't have any time for yourself and sometimes its overwhelming.
Things build up and finally you boil over and open the wine.
Putting yourself first for once can be a daunting task for you, yet it is essential when you are caring for others as well.
We think we are being selfish when we talk about "me' time or doing something just for us.
However think about it this way:it's important to us that our loved ones get enough sleep, eat well, exercise, play with their friends and relax.
So surely we deserve to do that too? Do you have time for relaxation and pleasure? No? Well it's time to start making yourself a priority too before you implode.
Here's a few ideas of where to start
  • Once in a while stop, pour a cup of coffee, grab a book and take ten minutes of downtime.
  • Plan a fun trip with your family
  • Try to get enough sleep (I know this is a tough one)
  • Workout (this is my personal zen time)
  • Book a date night with your partner
  • Call a friend and laugh
  • Don't fight too many fires at once
  • Try 10 minutes of relaxation breathing
  • Find a class for a new hobby or re embrace and old one
  • Book a massage or a pedicure
  • Go for a swim or a walk
  • Take a break to Meditate or pray in silence (if you can find a quiet place)
  • Have a girls night out
  • Go to the movies on your own (obviously if someone else can look after the kids)
Emotional health is as important as your physical health.
A moment of laughter with family and friends is essential stress and tension release.
Ensuring that you are looking after yourself is just as important as caring for your family.
Mommies in poor physical or mental health do not function well.
So make some time for yourself today! If you are one of the fortunate supermoms that has this all figured out, I'd love for you to share what you do to keep yourself sane and in control.
What do you do to unwind and chill out (wine doesn't count here).
