Ringworm in Dogs and Treatment

The name of disease confuses us.
We should be clear that Ringworm is not caused by worms.
In fact, it is caused by Microsporum canis, Microsporum gypseum, or Trichophyton mentagrophytes fungus.
In hot, humid climates, ringworm fungus is common but most cases of ringworm arise in the fall and winter.
The pet owners must be very careful because it is a transmitted disease.
It can be transmitted directly or get in touch with infected spores.
If you have healthy adult dog then it is safer than young dogs.
Young dogs have lack of resistance power to fight over ringworm.
If you find your dog is acting differently then you should try to find out what is wrong with him/her.
Here are some symptoms of Ringworm:
  1. Skin scratches are the easy way to find out.
    If a round, hairless skin scratches that become visible on the face, paws or neck it is Ringworm.
    Because of its round shape, many people think it is caused by worm.
    Nevertheless, the skin scratches are not inevitably round in shape.
    They can be in any shape.
    At first, it appears in small shape but gradually it grows.
  2. Skin Pimple is another symptoms but it also can be possible that your dog is infected by ringworm but there is no pimples.
    It appears time to time so this is not the authoritative symptoms.
  3. Try to find out whether your dog has itching problem or not.
    Sometime, Ringworm brings painful itching linked with the hairless skin scratches.
    As skin pimple is not authoritative, itching are also not authoritative symptoms.
    It can be visible or can be hidden.
  4. It is not necessary that red and flaking skin should be seen where hairless skin scratches are seen.
    Sometime, it may confuse to diagnosis but if red hairless skin scratches seen on the face of your dog then it is ringworm.
Definitely it is painful for a dog to have ringworm but it is curable disease.
The treatments are different for the different stages of ringworm.
If the skin scratches are small and apart from it your dog is healthy then it takes four months to get healed.
At first, you should clip around the area.
Be careful you should not irritate the skin.
Now days, miconazole cream, Lotrimin cream, or 1% chlorhexidine cream are popular medicine.
These are antifungal medicine.
You also can use antifungal shampoos or dips.
A 0.
5% chlorhexidine shampoo, 2% miconazole shampoo, ketoconazole shampoo, lime sulfur dips, or 2% chlorhexidine solution should apply every 2 to 4 days can be beneficial.
If you have neem in your garden then bathing with Neem Soap or Neem Shampoo and putting Neem Oil onto the affected area is helpful to your dog.
