- 1). Prepare the pen to be used as a pick. Pry or cut off the end cap, and remove the ink tube. The side of the pen that will be inserted into the lock is the end opposite the writing tip.
- 2). Use scissors to cut a few slits in the end of the pen. This will fray the point to be inserted into the lock and allow it to stretch to more easily fit into the keyhole.
- 3). Align the pen with the keyhole and locking mechanism and push it in. It may take some force to work the pen into the keyhole. The lock is designed to withstand strong forces, so do not be afraid of breaking your lock. Make sure the pen tube is kept in line with the locking mechanism as it is inserted and pushed in as far as it can go.
- 4). Grip the lock firmly in one hand and hold the pen in the other. Shake the lock until you hear the locking mechanism click and disengage. The lock will now open.
- 5). Contact Kryptonite customer support for a replacement key or to obtain a lock upgrade. Kryptonite realizes that this method of picking is a dangerous design flaw, and offers a free replacement to anyone who owns a Kryptonite model that can be picked in this method.
