- 1). Use the range finder or tape measure to set up a target at 25 yards.
- 2). Sight the firearm in to hit the bull's-eye at 25 yards. Alternatively, you can sight it in at 50 yards, keeping in mind that the bullet will strike 1.6 inches high at 25 yards.
- 3). Stalk your prey quietly and get as close as possible. Since most game taken with this round is small, such as squirrels, raccoons and other varmints accustomed to seeing humans, getting within 25 yards does not require camouflage. You just need to be quiet and walk slowly.
- 4). Aim for the animal's head. This round is not very powerful, so body shots may not penetrate enough to quickly kill the animal. A head provides a smaller target, but, when hit, will guarantee a quick, ethical kill.
