- 1). Position the Z-Start push mower on a level surface.
- 2). Adjust the throttle to the starting position. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions as this will vary from one brand of mower to another. Move the throttle to the choke position as a rule of thumb.
- 3). Raise the operator presence lever and hold it in place against the handle of the mower.
- 4). Reach forward and grasp the T-handle on the starter cord. Grip the handle firmly yet comfortably.
- 5). Pull the handle and starter cord back toward you to start the mower. Pull the cord with a smooth motion and do not yank it. Follow the recommendations in the owner's manual for the number of times to pull the cord to crank the mower before troubleshooting.
