- 1). Purchase a material for the bow that will complement the material of the wedding dress. Silk or organza work well because they look soft and airy. If you’re unsure, take the dress to a wedding dress store and have a clerk help you decide.
- 2). Drape the material down the back of the dress to determine how long you want the ends of the bow to reach. You may want them to drape most or all the way to the ground if the bow is very large. Be sure to include the size of the bow itself as you measure the length you need. Cut the bow material to length.
- 3). Form the bow by folding the material in half to find the center. Make a loop on one side to the left of center of the ribbon and another loop on the other side to the right of center of the ribbon. Hold both loops with your thumbs and index fingers. Now tie the two loops together with a basic knot like the one you use to tie your shoes. Pull the ends, and adjust the center and loops to fit the dress.
- 4). Pin the bow to the dress, letting the excess material drape down.
- 5). Sew the bow to the back of the wedding dress using a needle and matching thread. Be sure to stitch underneath the bow and secure it well to the dress.
