- 1). Fill up the 250 XT completely. It should take 2.4 gallons of gasoline, according to Yamaha. Take note of your mileage or set the trip meter.
- 2). Drive the 250 XT as you normally do until it is almost completely out of gas. Refill the XT 250's gas tank, taking note of precisely how many gallons of gasoline it took and how many miles you have traveled.
- 3). Divide the number of miles you traveled by the amount of gasoline you had to put back in the tank. For example, if the XT 250 went 120 miles on 2 gallons of gasoline, then you would divide 150 by 2 and discover that your XT 250 is averaging approximately 60 miles per gallon.
- 4). Repeat the process through several tanks of gasoline, tracking the XT 250's fuel mileage. Average fuel economy together after several tanks to get an accurate range of its fuel economy under different riding conditions as well as an average fuel economy for the bike.
