- Dinosaur invitations are a great way to start your themed birthday party. Have the birthday kid draw a picture of his favorite dinosaur. Then scan and print the picture onto the front of each invitation. Another idea is to trace a large dinosaur foot print onto the front of each invitation or use dinosaur stickers to decorate the page. A different type of invitation would be to print birthday party information on a small piece of paper and roll it into a scroll. Then place the scroll into a plastic egg along with a few speckled jelly beans for a dinosaur egg invitation.
- The first place to look for dinosaur decorations is your own house. Any toys, pictures, puzzles or games can add to the party. For table decorations, use a white table cloth and place paper dinosaur foot prints to make tracks across the table. Then scatter rock candy and dinosaur fruit snacks. Make volcanoes out of brown or green play dough to add a prehistoric feel. Also hang plastic ivy or green crepe paper from the ceiling for a jungle feel.
- Make your dinosaur cake as simple or elaborate as you want. Bake a square, rectangle or circle cake, or change it up and make cup cakes. Frost the entire cake or top of cup cakes and place a toy dinosaur on top for a simple idea. Find a dinosaur-shaped cake pan at a local cake supply store and decorate as much or as little as you want. A volcano-shaped cake with frosting down the side for lava will take the kids back in time. Another idea is a three-dimensional dinosaur cake looking as real as it can be.
- Activities and games will make your party go down in history just like the dinosaurs. Start off with a simple dinosaur puzzle and move onto building a three-dimensional dinosaur out of pre-cut foam pieces. A fun game for all ages is either pin the horn on the Triceratops or pin the teeth on T-Rex. Make each kid an honorary paleontologist for the day and go on a dig. Fill up a baby pool with sand and bury bones, eggs and fossils. Let each kid dig for the items and whoever finds the most wins.
- For a take-home gift, at the beginning of the party, fill up pie tins with plaster and have each kid press either a hand or foot into the plaster. Let dry for the rest of the party and by the end each kid will have his own fossil to take home. Spray-paint a large plastic egg with speckled paint for each kid. Fill with dinosaur candy and fruit snacks. Small dinosaur toys, stickers or dinosaur-shaped cookies are nice party favors as well.
