- 1). Unplug the Kenmore washer's power cord from the outlet. Pull the washer a foot away from the back wall. This gives enough clearance for tilting the control console.
- 2). Remove the screw on each end of the control console that connects it to the top of the washer with a Phillips head screwdriver. There is one screw on the front bottom of each end of the console. Raise the front of the control console and tilt it toward the rear wall.
- 3). Disconnect the lid switch harness connector. The connector is on the top rear of the washer in between the two brass clips that secure the cabinet to the rear of the washer. Press the tabs on the side of the connector with your fingers and pull it away from the washer.
- 4). Cut a 4-inch piece of low-voltage wire, either from a stock roll or some scrap wire, with wire cutters. Strip 1/4-inch of insulation from each end with wire strippers. Look at the end of the connector for three holes. Insert the ends of the wire into the end holes of the connector. The center hole is the ground. The lid switch is now jumped.
