Earaches can be cause by an infection in the ear or because of pressure in the middle ear. Colds, sinus problems, excess ear wax and teeth problems are often common causes of earaches. At some point in your life, almost everyone has suffered from earaches. You can try one of these home earache remedies to get quick and instant relief. Here are some of those earache remedies.

Put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide into your aching ear. Let this sit in the ear a few minutes in order for it to work. If the pain is caused by wax buildup, the peroxide will clear it up. If it is an infection it will still work as long as the infection is not too advanced.

Another form of earache remedies is to put a few drops of slightly warmed olive or mineral oil into the affected ear to help soothe the pain. You need to let the oil sit in the ear or ears for a few minutes then wipe away the residue.

Also chewing gum and swallowing will help to ventilate the Eustachian tube and allow for drainage. This may help to alleviate some pressure cause by the infection in the inner ear.

Other earache remedies that you can utilize are to puncture a piece of garlic, squeeze the juice out of it, and pour the juice in the ear that hurts. You need to let the juice remain in the ear a few minutes for optimal results. Garlic is known to have a natural antibiotic in it and using it may help to fight an earache.

You can also mix 3 parts vinegar with 1 part rubbing alcohol and apply a few drops to the affected ear. You can also use apple cider vinegar instead of plain white vinegar. If all else fails you can use ibuprofen to reduce the inflammation in the ear as another good form of earache remedies.

Earache Remedies | Hot and Cold Compresses

One of the age old secrets for earache remedies is using a hot compress. You can wet a small towel in hot water and hold it against your ear. This earache remedy will bring immediate relief to a painful ear. You can also use a heating pad set on low and lie on the side with the infected ear. A hot shower can also help to loosen and soften some ear wax. If the heat does not work on your painful ears, people use cold compresses instead. This will only help to relieve the pain. So use whatever one work best for you.

Earache Remedies | Dealing with Insects

Sometimes insects are real pests even when there is not much space for them to fly around, they insist on flying into you ear. However, if the insect does not fly out do not use your reflexes and poke your fingers into you ear. Instead, use some ear drops or mineral oil to flush the insect out. Use an eyedropper to fill the fluid into the ear. Make sure you consult a doctor if the insect does not come out of the ear.

One awful habit that many of us have is poking our ears with something or the other. Although it is okay to use cotton swabs to clean out one's ears, try not to use one if you feel the something has gone into your ear. Too much poking either with swabs or fingers might damage might damage the eardrum. However, the best way to prevent an earache is from one starting in the first place. You can do so by avoiding extremely loud music, extremely cold temperatures, and plug your ears when swimming. Also, when blowing your nose generally do it one nostril at a time and try to avoid smoke as much as possible.
