- 1). Sell your scrap catalytic converters to a recycler such as Recycalytics or Midsouth Recyclers. When you send your scrap catalytic converters to the catalytic converter recycler they will grade them, verify the type and give you an offer. This is probably the easiest way to sell your scrap catalytic converters. Be sure to contact the company before sending them in so they don't get lost or sent back.
- 2). Sell your scrap catalytic converters at online auction sites like eBay. There is a market online for scrap catalytic converters. You can sell them without knowing the grade and type. However, the main thing to know is the weight of the converter and how full it is. Look inside the end and there should be honeycomb substrate or beads inside. Estimate how full it is and put that information in your auction. You may need a flashlight to see inside. Use a scale to weigh it and include the weight in your auction. Be sure to take good pictures and put as much information about the scrap catalytic converters as you can in your auction listing.
- 3). Process your scrap catalytic converters. Many catalytic converter recyclers will accept the beads or the honeycomb substrate inside the catalytic converter for recycling. This may make you more money if you are shipping your converters, as you will not have to ship the steel. Cut open your scrap catalytic converters with a metal cutting saw or a torch and remove the beads or honeycomb substrate inside. Send this to a catalytic converter recycler. Send the scrap casings to a metal recycler such as American Metal Recycling. Verify they accept non-ferrous metals before sending them in.
