- 1). Copy each recipe onto a 3-by-5 inch index card. You can write on either side, but keep in mind that if you are using unlined cards, you might want to use a ruler to keep your lines straight.
- 2). Organize your cards into piles based upon type of dish (Appetizer, Main dish, Dessert), or by any other organizational method you prefer. For example, you could also arrange your cards by country of origin (France, Mexico, America), original source (newspaper, Grandma, cookbook), or just a straight alphabetical organization of all the recipes.
- 3). Label the tabbed index card organizers with the names of each of your organizational piles. Put the tabbed organizer cards back into the index card file.
- 4). Add your recipe cards into the index card file behind their proper tab.
- 5). Keep your recipe cards in their file in your kitchen where they will be waiting for the next time you need a meal idea.
