• Hardware suppliers recommend an approximate height of 52 inches from the floor when mounting your towel bar. Those in the construction industry opt for anywhere from 48 inches to 52 inches. It is acceptable to place a towel bar 36 inches from the floor in a child's room.
  
  

Towel Bars Behind Toilets

• The rule of placing a towel bar 48 to 52 inches from the floor may not work when placing one above a toilet. Because toilets have different heights, position the towel bar just high enough so the towels will not touch the back of the stool.
  
  

Securing a Towel Bar

• Once you have decided on the proper area and height of a towel bar, find studs that can support both sides of the bar. Since studs run vertical inside the wall, your desired height will not be affected but the horizontal placement may vary by a few inches.
