- 1). Feed the plugless end of the lamp cord through the top center hole in the drum shade. Move the drum far down the cord so you can freely handle the wire end of the cord.
- 2). Strip the insulation off the last inch of the plugless end. Grab the cord with the wire strippers, using the appropriate diameter hole on the stripping end of the tool, and then pull until the insulation is removed.
- 3). Pull the two insulated cords apart below the newly exposed wires, splitting them apart several inches. Tie the two ends of the cord together loosely directly above where you stopped splitting. Thread the exposed ends through the hollow rod.
- 4). Remove the socket's cover. Bend and twist the end of each of the two exposed wires around a nut, two of which are located on opposite sides of the socket. Wrap the wires in opposite directions. Slip the socket's cover back over the socket.
- 5). Cover any exposed, unwrapped wires with the shrink wrap tubing. Shrink with a heat gun or a hair dryer. Screw in the light bulb.
- 6). Pull the drum shade back over the socket configuration, and allow the socket to rest inside the drum shade. Drape your yard of fabric over the bottom opening of the drum shade. Trace a line around the circumference of the shade's opening, leaving an extra 1/4 inch on all sides.
- 7). Cut out your fabric circle. Remove the banding around the bottom of the drum shade, carefully keeping it intact. Glue around the bottom edge of the shade. Lay the fabric right side down and then set the glued end of the drum shade over it, centering it directly over the fabric circle.
- 8). Glue around the 1/4-inch border of fabric surrounding the shade, and then adhere that border to the bottom sides of the shades. Allow the glue to dry before proceeding.
- 9). Glue the band back to its original position.
