Training a Golden Retriever Puppy to Behave

Golden retrievers make a great family pet.
Not only are they smart and very loyal, but they are also great with kids and have a willingness to please you.
Why is it then that every time you are not watching your retriever puppy, he always gets himself into trouble? Whether it is digging in the yard or chewing your furniture, golden retrievers have a knack for getting themselves into some trouble.
You may have tried to train your puppy not to do these things but still find that you are coming home to a mess.
While you have to keep a constant eye on them at all times, training your puppy doesn't have to be a chore for either of you and with a little work, your little trouble maker will soon behave for you.
The main thing to remember when you are training a golden retriever puppy is that they are very active by nature and the less exercise they get, the more of a tendency they have to act out.
You can easily resolve this by taking them for a walk or throwing a ball or Frisbee for them.
This keeps them active and as long as you do it at least an hour a day, you will see some improvement in your pups behavior.
Another thing you can do is praise your puppy when he does something right.
Praising him will help him understand that what he is doing is good, such as going to the bathroom outside or fetching a Frisbee and bringing it back to you.
You can also use treats along with praise because your pup will really understand you then.
One thing that you never want to do is punish your dog if he does something wrong especially if you didn't catch him in the act because he won't know what it is he did wrong.
If you do catch him doing something naughty such as peeing on your carpet or digging in the flower beds, the best thing to do is to firmly say "no" and keep a close eye on him next time.
If you can do that, then your golden retriever puppy will be trained in no time and you won't have to worry about him again.
