- 1). Locate the studs in the wall with a stud finder. Most wall sconces use two screws to secure the mounting plate to the wall. Mark the location of the edges of two adjacent studs.
- 2). Position the mounting plate against the wall between the two studs. Mark the location of the screw holes. Rest a level on top of the mounting plate to ensure that the light will be level when you install it.
- 3). Press an anchor screw against the mark on the wall, and lightly tap it with a hammer to press it through the drywall. Some anchor screws require that you drill a 1/4-inch hole first. Use a 1/4-inch drill bit and drill to create the hole, if necessary. Remove the screw from the anchor with a screwdriver. Repeat for the other screw holes for the mounting plate.
- 4). Insert the screws through the screw holes, and drive them into the anchors with a screwdriver. Mount the wall sconce onto the mounting plate following the directions included with the light fixture.
