Having your own blog is a great way to showcase your work or to simply share your thoughts about a given topic.
But don't you ever wonder why some blogs become popular while others silently hide alone never making it to the "big leagues" of the grand internet marketing world? Communication - Well, I think the number one key factor of having a successful blog is getting people to communicate.
If you can create a blog, where you're able to get people talking, communicating and commenting, that's probably going to be the number one key factor to having a successful blog.
Just think about it! Blogs are naturally a form of social media.
So, the more times people start commenting on your blog, the more likely it's going to get higher in the search engines.
Comments are going to be a key factor in getting your blog higher up in the search engines.
Good Readership - Another thing a blog owner needs to consider is good readership.
You want to get people signing up and tuning in to your RSS feed.
Have people coming back to you as much as you can.
You want them to "stick".
You want to make it sticky enough by creating enough intrigue, that people start wondering what the heck you are up to so you can keep them coming back.
That's a really big thing on a blog.
Make it fun and interactive.
Re-posting Ability - On your blog you also want to give visitors the ability to re-post on social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc, so you can get links back to your page which will also help you to rank higher in the search engines and drive more traffic to your site.
The goal is getting it higher up in the search engines and making it become an authority site.
Opt-In Form - A big element that you're going to want to have on your blog is an opt-in page or an opt-in form.
You want them to be able to input their contact information before they can go anywhere else on your site.
A lot of the most successful opt-in pages have headlines and are direct response savvy.
They're specifically designed for one outcome and that is to get people to opt-in.
An opt-in page and a sales letter are pretty much the same, except for instead of making the sale, you're getting the opt-in.
Attention Grabbing Headline - The key is to make sure that your opt-in form has an attention grabbing headline.
A lot of times we like to use quotation marks at the start and the end of the headline.
Red is a really good color to use.
I suggest that you put it in an 18 to 24 point font.
One of the best headlines that you could probably use is something like "Free Report Reveals How To...
" and then you fill in the things from there.
One of the most powerful written words ever is "free.
" Change the Color of Your Sub-Headline - After you've completed your headline, then when you go down to the sub-headline, you might want to consider making it a different color.
A lot of times we'll use black, and also maybe 14 point font.
After that, a lot of times what we'll do is have a short introduction that addresses a specific problem in the area that you're focusing on, and maybe add five to seven different bullet points to make sure you're focusing on benefits, not features.
To give you an example, I just bought a Mac Book Pro and it's got dual video cards in it.
However, rather than focusing on this feature, I would point out the benefit in that I have the ability to work on two videos at once.
Call-to-Action - The other thing you should have on your opt-in page is a call to action.
You want to tell people where to fill in the form, their primary email address, and everything from there.
Make sure you say primary email address.
Then, of course, you have the autoresponder on the page.
If you include all of these elements in your blog, there should be nothing stopping you from a bright and successful blogging future.
