Writing a grant proposal is a difficult task, and special classes are offered in many schools to help people learn the craft. But often, finding a grant that fits an individual's situation can be just as difficult. Most grant opportunities are offered to non-profit organizations and educational facilities for projects developed by groups. Grants for individuals are sparse and usually more specialized in nature. In the United Kingdom, some charities and local government offer grants for individuals with special needs.

The Paul Ackrill Fund

The Paul Ackrill Fund is a charitable organization named in honor of a young Brit that lost his struggle with cancer in 2001. The charity offers grants to people under 30 diagnosed with cancer. The funds help pay for treatments, traveling expenses and household bills. Patients can receive up to £500 a year, and need a social or health worker as a reference. Natwest bank helps sponsor the fund with a small yearly donation, but most of the charity's money is earned through community programs like quizzes and car washes.

The Arts Council for Moray offers grants to both non-profit organizations and individuals. Individuals applying for a grant from the Arts Council for Moray must be able to show how the grant monies will benefit the individual applying, and how the individual will then benefit the arts in Moray, England. The grant offers up to £250 a year, and can only make up half of a projects funding. In applying, individuals must show where the other fifty percent will come from, and at the project's conclusion an end-of-project report must be submitted to the Moray Council.

The Clackmannanshire Community Chest is a fund established by Sterling Furniture and Sterling Mills Outlet Shopping Village in Clackmannanshire, England. It is run by the Clackmannanshire council and offers grant opportunities of up to £500, and anyone based locally may apply. Grant monies can be used for essential equipment, event funding or commemoration of special circumstances. The only restriction is that a planned activity using the funds is nondiscriminatory in nature.
