NLP: When You Don"t Meet Your Goals

There is new thought going around about goal setting that says that making a time commitment to your goals is not important.
Part of the NLP "SMART" goal setting method is that all goals should have a time reference to them.
The problem happens when you don't meet those time frames.
Most of us end up getting more demoralized and are worse off then if we did not set goals in the first place.
There is also the problem of setting your goals too high, so that they can not be achieved.
We think we are supermen and superwomen, and we can magically take on a multitude of tasks and somehow make them all succeed.
Look, the most successful people in the world have the same amount of time as you and me.
By piling too many activities on yourself you are setting yourself up not just for failure, but for a small disaster.
So what happens when you don't meet your goals? As you think about what you can do to make your business and your life more productive and successful, you may want to step back and take stock of work time you actually have available each day.
Once you figure that out, subtract one hour and then divide the rest into 50 minute segments, followed by 10 minutes of rest.
This is your optimum work time.
Now, taking your reasonable goals, decide what needs to be done this month that would get you to your goals.
Then schedule time each day to work towards those goals.
If you don't know yet, find out from others who have succeeded at your venture, what are the daily tasks that need to be done to create a successful business (relationship, sports activity) like yours.
Make up a daily checklist of those things you want to complete.
Remember to keep it reasonable.
A list that is too long will not encourage your success.
Create daily tasks and sub-tasks.
During your day be aware of what you are actually doing.
Do you check emails in between every sub-task? Do you surf the internet finding blog posts or articles relating to your business...
or you check out what free coaching programs are out there, only to add to an oversupply of related, but not well connected information.
There is no silver bullet.
You have time each day, what are you doing with it? By being reasonable with yourself by setting attainable goals, you can be more productive and have more fun in your work.
