- 1). Pour out the contents of any unused flower pots and their trays. This will remove any forming mosquito larvae before they grow into unwanted pests.
- 2). Keep an eye on the pots and trays, and dump them out whenever there is standing water present.
- 3). If your pots and trays cannot be emptied regularly or are filled with flowers, pour 1 tsp. vanilla extract into any standing water inside. According to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, vanilla has been shown to kill mosquito larvae on contact.
- 4). Repeat treating the flower pots with the vanilla extract weekly, to prevent further larval growth.
