Home Entertainment Options to Watch Movies Online

Are you wondering what streaming movies is all about, and whether or not it is for right you? While streaming service companies like Netflix and Hulu are becoming household names, there are many of us out there that are confused about what these services provide, and if they are worth looking into.

Up until recently home entertainment has centered mainly around our satellite or cable TV provider, with premium channels to movie channels and special series content from services like HBO, Cinemax, or Starz. We pay our monthly subscription that at a minimum costs us $50 to upwards of $200 per month to get unlimited access to the channels available in our plan. Often we only are interested in a dozen or so of the hundreds of channels that we pay for, but the television provider puts those coveted channels in their most expensive plans.

If there was a way to get a majority of the same programming for a fraction of the price, most consumers would be very interested. By making available your favorite TV shows and movies through streaming services over your broadband connection, you pay usual less than a tenth over other content delivery systems.

When you don't understand a new technology, it is hard to embrace it until you adequately answer some important questions. Besides understanding how it works, most people want to know whether or not it will be simple to set up, and if the setup costs are prohibitively expensive. That makes sense, and the goal is to get information available into consumers' hands so they can make an educated choice.

Video streaming providers deliver movies or a television shows via compressed digital files over streaming servers, which are delivered over an internet connection. Besides these on demand streaming opportunities, there is live stream, which is generally available for important national or worldwide events. However, reality TV shows are getting into live streaming by providing feeds 24/7 so that you can check in on what's happening when the program isn't airing.

Streaming service providers can charge so little because there aren't any DVDs to burn, package and ship. There also isn't a middle man anymore, because you purchase your media directly from the provider (either as a downloaded rental, purchase, or a subscription for unlimited streaming, which you can access on demand}.

Setting up home streaming is fairly easy. Most streaming services provide support to dozens of devices like blu-ray players, game consoles, or internet-enabled TV sets. If you don't already own something like this and wish to stream to your analog or digital television, you can purchase a streaming media player like Roku, Boxee or Tivo.
