According to the survey, the majority of over 40s chose Davis as the greatest snooker player showing he was popular with mature audiences. O'Sullivan, however, received 61% of the under 40s vote showing his recent dominance of the sport was popular with current spectators.

17% of participants chose the late great Alex Higgins as their greatest player of all time. 19% of female participants chose Higgins as the greatest player, making him the most popular choice with women on this occasion. O'Sullivan likens himself to Higgins "I'm more like Alex Higgins. He was a big occasion player. We are similar. We are too temperamental to be machines. I have tried to become one but it's impossible when you're not made that way."*
Although O'Sullivan may be respondents' favourite on this occasion, O'Sullivan himself says he does not compare to current record holder, Hendry: "It's still Stephen Hendry for me, he is the greatest player. Not just for his game, but for his bottle. There will never be another Hendry... I guess I have my little place in history but maybe that is more alongside the likes of Higgins than the other guys"*
