- 1). Refer to your local building codes and regulations, and verify your building plans are safe and meet your city requirements.
- 2). Determine the height of the platform. Hold the slide up and measure the distance from the top of the slide to the ground.
- 3). Dig four 48-by-48-inch post holes 2 feet deep. Pack down the bottom of the post holes. Position one 3-by-4 post into each of the post holes. Pour 6 inches of gravel into each post hole. Use a level tool to ensure that each post is even. Secure 3 or 4 wood pieces around each post for additional support. Fill each post hole with 4 inches of concrete. Allow enough time to dry completely then cover the concrete with earth or sod.
- 4). Build the square platform. Screw four 2-by-4s to the outside of the posts. Position the wood so the top sits 1 inch below the top of the platform. Fasten 3-foot, 8-inch lengths of 2-by-6s along the middle of the platform with metal joist hangers. Screw the 1-by-4s across the top, opposite the middle piece. Allow a 1/2-inch gap between the wood.
- 5). Construct the railing. Screw four 2-by-4s along the outer sides of the posts 2 feet, 6 inches higher than the wooden platform. Saw the post tops off to match the height of the 2-by-4s. Screw 3-by-4 posts to the top rails and platform to create two 1 1/2-foot openings to the slide and ladder. Nail the 1-by-4s to the inside of the 2-by-4s along the top and bottom of each side to complete the railing. Leave a gap smaller than 1 inch between the boards.
- 6). Build the ladder sides with two 2-by-4s. Saw the tops at a 45-degree angle and fasten them with 45-degree metal hangers to the 2-by-6 platform edges. Allow a 1-foot, 2 1/2-inch gap between the 2-by-4s. Build the stairs for the ladder. Use 45-degree metal hangers to fasten 1-by-6s to the ladder sides. Space the steps 6 inches apart or less. Attach the slide to the slide opening according to the directions that came with the kit.
