Fans of the highly addictive and hugely successful iPad game, Flight Control HD, will be very happy to know that it is one of the many new titles that will support the new PlayStation 3 Move controller. As most of you will know the PlayStation Move controller is a motion controller that works in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye camera and functions like a more accurate and fast version of the Wii motion plus controllers.
In the origional iPhone and iPad version of Flight Control HD, players use their fingers to trace the path of several different types of aircraft in order to get them to the one of several available landing strips without colliding. If any plane crashes into another, the game is over. Your score is based upon how many aircraft you are able to get on the ground safely without crashing. The new PS3 Move version of the game keeps this same game play but allows you to use the PS Move controller instead of your finger for path tracing.
It does take a little getting used to for players who have become accustomed to the origional style of play, but once you get the hang of it, the PS3 Move controller works wonderfully as a finger touch substitute. In the HD version of the game you will have up to 16 different types of aircraft to control. Everything from jumbo jets, to private planes, sea planes and even helicopters are thrown at you in increasing numbers and speeds. The PlayStation 3 Move version of the game even includes an exclusive Metropolis map that goes through night time and day time with some cool lighting effects at night. All of the origional 9 maps from the iPad game are also available. These maps include the origional single strip map from the first iPhone game as well as islands, aircraft carriers, an arctic landscape and a fun Australian outback map.
Online leader boards and competitions through the PSN network add still more functionality to the PS3 Move version of the game. This lets you work to collect plenty of trophies that can be put on your PSN profile for your friends to see.
The graphics on the PS# Move version of the game are not that impressive compared with full scale PlayStation 3 Move games, but for an inexpensive downloadable arcade game they are great. The night time effects on the Metropolis map really help to differentiate this version from the much simpler graphics of the iPad version of the game.
In addition to the PS3 Move controllers, you can also use the regular DUALSHOCK controllers to play the game. I do not recommend this, however as it is much more difficult to deal with the precision you need at the higher levels of game play. With the accuracy of the PlayStation Move free [http://www.playstationmovefree.net] control scheme, it is just as quick and simple to play as it was using my finger on the iPad version. This makes Flight Control HD on the Sony PS3 Move one of the best values available at launch of the platform. The game will give you many hours of fun for very little money, and that is what we all want most of all.
