- 1). Load the image file that you want to edit onto your computer. You can upload it from a camera or SD card or you can scan a picture. Ensure that the scanner resolution is set to 600 dpi (dots per inch) for a high-quality image.
- 2). Run the photo editing software and select the "File" option in the menu bar and click "Open." Select the image you chose in the previous step and open it in the dialog box. Browse to the panel entitled "Layers" and click the "New Layer" icon.
- 3). Choose the tool titled "Polygonal Selection" and make a selection of the canvas that corresponds to the lightsaber blade shape. Utilize the "Paint Bucket" tool to color the layer with the color that you want in the lightsaber.
- 4). Take and drag the top layer to the "New Layer" icon. Do this twice to make three layers in total. Choose the second layer from the bottom and select the "Filter" option. Afterward, select "Blur," then click "Gaussian Blur." Choose a 5-20 setting in the dialog and repeat for each individual above layer. Ensure that the blur is made greater each time.
- 5). Choose the "File" option and click "Save As." Save the file as a JPEG after naming it.
