Do Dermal Fillers Have Side Effects I Need To Know About?

With every medi-cosmetic treatment and product, even those adjudged as "perfectly" safe, there will always be a tiny fraction of the population who will have some kind of an adverse reaction.
It is true that Restylane has been and is considered one of the most effective treatments for wrinkle reduction; it is also true that it is a very safe procedure, but it is always worth noting the possible side effects and complications that may arise with its use should you fall into that tiny minority.
What is known is that, even after thousands of applications of Restylane, the incidence of complications is extremely low.
Most commonly, side effects might include:
  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Bruising
  • Tenderness
  • Infection at the injection site
If they show up at all, these side effects may present singly, or you can experience more than one.
Fortunately their duration is typically short-lived, from a few hours to a day or two.
Individuals who have had Restylane treatment for their lips can be more prone to some swelling.
Those who experience itching may wonder if they are having an allergic reaction to Restylane.
Fortunately, allergic reactions are very rare, as the basis for Restylane, hyaluronic acid, is already found naturally in the human body.
If, however, you're one of those individuals who already has "hyper-sensitive" skin, then you may be the 1 in 2,000 who has enduring side effects.
Nonetheless, they should subside within a few weeks.
As with any medi-cosmetic treatment, there are some precautionary considerations that you should be aware of.
For example, an individual who has just undergone Restylane treatment should not be heading out to the beach to bask in the sun.
And if you've undergone some other cosmetic procedure recently, you should wait until you're completely healed from that treatment.
Restylane has had the U.
S.
Federal Drug Administration (FDA) seal of approval for several years now, but testing and evaluation on certain groups of people has not yet been done.
As such, the FDA cautions that these individuals should consult with their physician before undergoing Restylane procedure.
If you are:
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • A minor
  • Prone to either keloid or hypertrophic scarring
...
then, please, do make an appointment to discuss with your doctor or practitioner on how Restylane treatment may affect you.
For the majority of individuals who undergo Restylane treatment there's no side effects at all.
Well, that is if you don't take into consideration the best side effect of all - a more beautiful, younger, fresher looking you!
