To become a more responsible person, the first thing we need to ask is: responsible for whom?
You must not play the victim and blame other people or outsides circumstances for where you are and what is happening to you.
The Law of Attraction teaches us that what we focus on expands.
Whether or not you realize it, your current circumstances are largely a product of what you have chosen to focus on, and who you have chosen to spend your time with.
The good news is, you can change what you focus on and who you associate with.
Life isn't about what happens to you; it IS about how you choose to REACT and there is always another choice! Being responsible for yourself means you drop your agenda, and pay attention to other people.
You stop and think before you speak or send a message or perform any act: how will this affect those around me? How will it be received? Am I stooping to the level of negative people or am I staying in the positive emotions and taking the high road? You take control of your thoughts first, and this leads to being responsible for your actions.
Once you are responsible for yourself, think about who depends on you.
Your children, if you have any, are a huge responsibility.
You job is not to be their BFF (best friend forever.
) Your job is to help them become a functioning member of society, completely responsible for themselves.
Your employees or business partners also rely on you.
You can't control their actions, but you can set a good example and look out for them.
You can advise them when they show a lack of responsibility for themselves.
You may be held accountable at times for the actions (or lack thereof) of your employees, and then your responsibility is to coach them as best you can to improve and do better in the future.
Lack of responsibility for pets is a real annoyance to me.
Your pets can't think like humans.
They are totally reliant on you for their well-being.
Do NOT take in a pet (or pets) unless you have the time and money to care for them properly.
And do not allow them to breed unless you know for certain that you can find good homes for the offspring.
Don't contribute to the ever-growing problem of stray animals.
There is a great self-assessment quiz in chapter 7 of "Think And Grow Rich" and toward the end of the last chapter are "Fifty-seven Famous Alibis.
" These can be of great help, but the entire book should be read and studied, ideally in a mastermind group.
This is the best personal development tool I have ever found.
