Aselsan aimed to be one of the world's first 50 companies in the defense industry. As such, the company had rapidly growing information technology needs and renewed its ERP system with an SAP installation in 2005. In 2009, Aselsan decided to take new steps to improve processes, accelerate circulation processes, shorten decision-making processes and develop processes on an independent platform.
Aselsan chose a Business Process Management Suite to optimize business processes. The solution enables Aselsan to digitally track processes and automate back-office applications. Aselsan is now able to monitor and analyze the processes as well as eliminate unnecessary work steps. Besides using a Business Process Management Suite, the solution also uses Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) and an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) .

So, right after the ERP system matured, Aselsan began searching for a solution to effectively manage business processes. At the same time, due to its sense of rule and quality systems, the company focused on process analysis and improvement goals and, beyond a simple workflow, decided it needed a comprehensive BPM approach. Aselsan required a tool that could flow inside or outside the ERP SAP system, start in one platform and proceed within another.
Another goal was to reduce paper usage to comply with the institutional environmental policies.
After substantial detailed assessments, live demos and workshops, Aselsan opted for a Business Process Management solution. A consulting team assisted Aselsan's technical team with process modeling and implementation. As a result, Aselsan was able to obtain a platform to convert traditional processes into an automated environment, thus increasing process traceability.
In the project's first stage, all work steps in the company's purchase request and insurance claim processes were defined, modeled and automated in only six months. Reporting tools and Aselsan's current business intelligence system enable the creation of instant reports. Aselsan is now able to use Key Performance Indicators to establish an infrastructure for ongoing process improvement.
