- 1). Park your Mercedes-Benz with ample room for working on both sides of the vehicle safely. Put the transmission in Park and apply the parking brake. Place tire blocks behind the rear tires to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward during installation.
- 2). Loosen the lug nuts on the wheels of the Mercedes using the socket at the end of the tire iron.
- 3). Lift the vehicle using a lifting jack. Place the jack beneath the frame of the car, not the fender, and lift until the tires are at least 2 inches clear of the road surface. Place jack stands beneath the frame and lower the Benz. Make sure the tires are clear of the ground when resting on the jack stands.
- 4). Remove the lug nuts and pull the wheels from the lug bolts.
- 5). Remove the calipers. Unscrew the two caliper bolts found at the inner top and bottom of the caliper (nearest to the Mercedes' frame) using a 13 mm socket and ratchet. For older models and M-Class vehicles, use a Torx T-40 socket and ratchet.
- 6). Remove the brake pads from the caliper. The pads are fixed to the caliper by metal clips. Slide the pads off by hand. If the brakes are rusted, spray the brake pad clips with chain lubricant or WD-40. Rusted clips are easily damaged during removal.
- 7). Open the caliper piston. The piston is the ring that protrudes from one of the inner walls of the caliper. The piston forces the brake pads against the rotors during braking. Because the new pads will be thicker than the worn pads, you will have to open the piston to accommodate the larger pad. Squeeze the piston against the side of the caliper using vise-grip pliers.
- 8). Install the new brake pads. Slide the pads onto the caliper. Properly installed pads will face each other and mirror the curve of the caliper.
- 9). Place the caliper around the rotor. Replace the caliper bolts using a 13 mm socket or Torx T-40 socket and ratchet.

Replace the wheels and tighten the lug nuts by hand. Raise the Mercedes to remove the jack stands before lowering the vehicle to the ground. Tighten the lug nuts with the tire iron once the vehicle is on the ground. - 11
Apply the brake. Press the brake repeatedly until the pedal response is normal.
