How to Style Medium Hair With Choppy Layers

    Straight Hair

    • 1). Wash your hair with a volumizing shampoo. Rinse and squeeze out the water from your hair then apply a good quality conditioner. Leave the conditioner in for a few minutes then rinse well and towel dry your hair.

    • 2). Place a quarter size amount of hair gel into the palm of one hand, rub your palms together and work the gel through the roots of your hair. Blow dry your hair out straight with a wire brush or allow your hair to dry naturally.

    • 3). Straighten your hair with an ionized straightener. Straighten each choppy layer individually. The ionizer gives your hair shine while it straightens out any bumps to maximize the choppy cut look.

    • 4). Place a tiny amount of hair gel on the tips of your fingers. Apply this hair gel to the lower 1 inch of your hair, grasping an approximately 1-inch wide group of hair. Twist the ends of the hair as you work the hair gel down to the tips to create individual clumps of choppy strands, giving you a slightly funky look.

    • 5). Spray a texturizing spray all over your hair to add texture, shine and hold the hair in place.

    Curly Hair

    • 1). Wash your hair with a volumizing shampoo. Rinse and squeeze out the water from your hair then apply a good quality conditioner. Leave the conditioner in for a few minutes then rinse well and towel dry your hair.

    • 2). Place a large dollop of moose in the palm of your hands, rub your hands together, and work the moose throughout your hair. Comb the mouse through the hair.

    • 3). Dry your hair using a blow dryer with a diffuser at the end. Scrunch up your hair to enhance your natural curls and waves. Lift the hair at the roots and apply the blow dryer to the roots to add height and volume.

    • 4). Curl your hair with a curling iron if you do not have as many curls in your natural hair as you desire.

    • 5). Sprinkle a small amount of texturizing powder onto the top of your hair at the scalp, and lightly rub it in with your fingertips. This will lift the hair from the scalp and add texture while bringing attention to the choppiness of the hairstyle.
