Hi my name is Jessica Liparoto celebrity hairstylist. And today I'm going to show you how to wear an upscale braid. So today for the upscale braid this is actually one of my signature red carpet looks. I'm going to show you how to do a messy fishtail braid. All you need is a brush and depending on the texture of your hair either a larger elastic or a smaller elastic. And we will also be using a gel, L'Oreal Paris Studio Line Clean Gel. And so first you are going to start off with our red carpet fishtail braid we are going to use our boar bristle brush. And we are just going to create some volume in the crown area by doing something called back brushing. You are just going to be literally pushing the hair back towards the scalp away from the grain. And it doesn't have to be very clean cause we are going to be doing a messy look. So big sections are just fine all the way throughout the hair. And this also is better then choosing because it doesn't break your hair and it's easier to brush out which is always helpful. You want to go to step two which is going to be adding the fishtail braid. So we are going to sweep it all over to one side. Use about a dime sized of gel. And we are just going to put it in the ends. So this is going to help prevent you from getting too many unwanted flyaways. And now to start off with our fishtail braid we are going to split the hair into two sections like this. And they should be pretty even. Then you are going to grab the outer hair the very outside piece, and you are going to bring it through the center. Hold it between your index and your thumb pretty taught like this. Then you are going to do the exact same thing on the other side, the very outer piece. You are going to put through the middle. And you are just going to keep repeating this step over and over until you get to the length that you want your braid to stop at. So then you are going to keep grabbing the outer most hair, make sure it's pretty clean, through the center. Grab the outer most layer on the other side through the center. And just repeat over and over. And I'm making mine kind of loose because I want to have that messy effect. And also I'm grabbing bigger sections to create that look. And if you want to do something that's a little tighter just pull a little tighter. And if you want to see more of the fishtail just take smaller sections like this and it will create more of a ridge in between. So the smaller the section the smaller the ridge. Now we are about to finish up the fishtail braid and what I like to do just so it has a little extra security, take your brush and just back comb the ends like you did by the roots like this and in the front. It will create a little kind of a nest area. And since she's got medium hair I'm going to use a little clear elastic and I'm just going to clasp the end. And you can either leave it like this since it's a messy look I think I'm going to leave mine like that. But as another option you can always just cover the rubber band with a piece of hair and it makes it look a little more sleek. But for us we are going to be messy today. So we are also going to pull out the braid. I'm going to go back in through the top we are going to kind of mess her up a little bit more. And if you think this is too much hair to have down in the back you can just tuck it right on in there. And that's how you get an upscale braid. I'm Jessica Liparoto thanks for watching.
