How To Prepare A Mouth Watering Cheese Salad?

Danish blue or Danablu is a blue veined cheese. Prepared from cow's milk it has a moist and edible rind. Molds of Penicillium roqueforti are added to the cheese before ageing it which gives it the blue or greenish color. The cheese is named after the place it is made that is Denmark in the early 20th century. As it has a mild flavor and a salty taste so, it is paired well with salads or is eaten as a dessert. It is also served with bread and biscuit in Denmark.

Danish Blue Cheese is rich in nutrition. 341.00kcal of energy is present in per 100g of this cheese. It is also rich in carbohydrate and protein as per 100g contains 0.10g carbohydrate and 19.90g protein. The fat content is 28.60g of which 18.20g is saturated. It can be paired with numerous items. It can be eaten alone also. A salad prepared with this type of cheese tastes best. To prepare a cheese salad all you need is
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • ¼ cup of extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • 1 teaspoon spicy brown mustard
  • 1/8 teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon of salt
  • ¼ cup crumbled blue cheese

These are the ingredients needed for making the dressing. To make the salad you need some separate items like 5 ounce baby lettuce mix, ½ cup toasted, chopped and divided walnuts, 1 red apple which is chopped and cored and ½ cup blue crumbled cheese.

The first step to prepare a salad using Danish blue cheese is to make the dressing and keep it aside. To make the dressing you need a small bowl and all the ingredients like mustard, honey, salt and pepper, vinegar and olive oil should be added to it. The mixture should be whisked well until it is blended perfectly. Next ¼ cup of the blue cheese should be mixed with it and stirred lightly. The dressing is now ready and it should be kept aside. The next step is to make the salad. To prepare the salad you should take a large bowl and place the lettuce and half of the walnuts in it primarily. The premade dressing should be added to the lettuce and walnut and stirred well until well coated.

This salad can serve up to four persons. Take four plates and pour equal amounts of salad on them. It can then be garnished with ½ cup blue cheese, the remaining of the walnuts and apple slices. Some interesting toppings can also be made using this type of cheese. If you are planning a party and wish to buy Danish blue cheese, then it should be paired with a perfect wine. As the cheese is too salty and intense in taste so, it should be paired with a sweet wine. The ultimate wine and cheese combo using this type of cheese is Sauternes and Roquefort.  It can also be eaten with honey comb or with some walnut or oat crackers.
