- 1). Study the layout of the room before beginning. Identify the angle and relationship of the main entrance of the room and the sliding glass doors. You do not want to arrange furniture so that it faces completely away from the main entrance.
- 2). Place the main seating either facing or sideways to the sliding glass doors. If the main entrance is on the opposite wall from the sliders, position the main seating facing one of the other two walls. If main entrance is on a wall adjacent to the sliding glass doors, face the main seating toward the sliders with its side toward the main entrance.
- 3). Position secondary seating to face the main entrance of the room. If the sliders are on the wall opposite the main entrance, this means placing the seating in front of the sliders. In this situation, select small pieces such as armchairs. Space the seating in accordance with the size of the available space.
- 4). Place entertainment equipment on the remaining wall. Put a television, stereo or other entertainment pieces on the wall left empty after placing the furniture. This will place the entertainment equipment in view of all the seating, but it will not be the focal point of the room. A bookshelf may also fill this space.
- 5). Take advantage of the light from the sliding doors and place art pieces and other pieces of decoration on the wall opposite the doors.
- 6). Arrange the remaining furniture pieces and decor around the basic layout. Go through a trial-and-error process to see which pieces fit where.
