Safe Repellents

• Citrus oil is a safe mosquito repellent. It contains a compound called d-limonene. D-limonene acts as a repellent for a broad spectrum of insects, including ants, ticks and mosquitoes. Rose geranium plants and essential oils are other natural repellents long used in South Africa against mosquitoes.
  
  

Function

• Citrus and rose geranium oils can be dripped onto outdoor furniture or beach towels to deter mosquitoes from coming near. Add a few drops of the oils to a water bottle filled with water and then spritz down clothing and skin to create a safe mosquito repellent for your family and for pets.
  
  

Considerations

• Essentials oils can be purchased at health food and aromatherapy supply stores. Citrus oil can make cats ill, so avoid using citrus oil directly on them. Rose geranium oil is safe for both dogs and cats.
