- 1). Clean the gate with a scrub brush and warm, soapy water. Allow to air dry completely and then apply a primer and paint, if desired, to paint the gate to match your kitchen. Allow the gate to dry completely---at least 24 hours after painting---before proceeding.
- 2). Use stud finder to locate the joists in the ceiling where you plan to mount the pot rack. Mark the areas where you want to install the screws for hanging the pot rack. You will mark either two or four spots, depending on the size of the gate.
- 3). Use the drill to drill pre-installation holes for the ceiling screws. Make the holes slightly smaller than the size of the ceiling screws. Screw in the ceiling screws.
- 4). Attach one end of the hanging link chains to the hook end of the ceiling screws. If you're hanging a smaller gate that will hang from only two ceiling hooks, you should attach two link chains to each hook. Attach an S-hook to the other end of each link chain.
- 5). Attach the D-shackles to the corners of your gate. Hang the gate by inserting the ends of the S-hooks into the loops of the D-shackles.
- 6). Hang your pots from the gate using the remaining S-hooks.
